SOUPER BOWL OF CARING - More than 20 years ago, the Souper Bowl of Caring began with a simple prayer from a single youth group. "Lord, as we enjoy the Super Bowl football game, help us to be mindful of those without even a bowl of soup to eat." Since that day, more than $81 million has been raised for local charities across the country through the Souper Bowl of Caring. It has helped transform the time around Super Bowl into a celebration of giving and serving.

Joy Youth working with other volunteers have planned a Souper Bowl of Caring lunch for Sunday, February 5. After that morning's worship, soup, beverages and desserts will be served in the parish hall.
A free will offering will be received with the East Dallas Chapter of Thrivent
Financial supplying matching funds. Money raised will be given to Helping
Hands of Rockwall County. Let's support Joy Youth and help provide food for this area's hungry
.

SUNDAY SCHOOL - Dawn Mahoney, Sha Snowden and Mary Oltmanns lead a class for young children every Sunday. This class meets upstairs.

Joy teens meet upstairs in the south room.

Pro Appel will teach an adult class in the parish hall downstairs. This class will start again on the second Sunday in February, the 12th. Joy's Sunday
School hour is 9:15 am.

CONGREGATIONAL MEETING - The January 22nd meeting was called to order by Joy's Treasurer Richard Oltmanns who was subsequently elected to chair this meeting. (Nigel Simpson, president, was out of town due to work responsibilities. Sharon Johnson, secretary, was with her hospitalized husband.)

+ The 28 members in attendance accepted the minutes of the June, 2011, meeting as presented.

+ The following were elected to serve on the 2012 nominating committee: Paul Manak, Judy Randolph, Karen McClenon and Jim Haynes. Nigel Simpson, congregation president, will also be on this committee.
+ No one volunteered to attend the April Synod Assembly from Joy. The council
will act to obtain an assembly delegate. Pro Appel attends the assembly also.

+ Richard shared the 2011 treasurer's report. He noted that offerings for 2011  were $1200 over the budget expectations-and expenses-were-$l500 less than budgeted. He described Joy's financial position as sound.

+ Richard reminded those attending that the president-elect position remains unfilled. He also mentioned that the council is considering amending Joy's constitution regarding official notification.

+The 2012 budget suggested by Joy's Council was approved.  It is essentially the same as the 2011 budget. Due to the vacancy of the parsonage the budget shows a decrease in rental income from 2011. Copies of the 2011 treasurer's report and the 2012 budget are available for everyone at the church. Please take and review them. Questions about either may be directed' to a council member.
